'The girl sighed softly, her hair dancing in her face. She looked out past the cliff, looking at the ground below with every emotion laced through her thoughts. Days earlier, she had stood in this same place. Felt the same wind.
Smelled the faint scent of rain. And yet now, her chest ached with longing. Days earlier she had walked off this cliff with no second
'thoughts. No hesitation in her movements as she felt herself drop, the world brightening around her as she fell. The clouds took on an purple hue and her own voice rang through her ears. But today she stood unmoving. Still. She felt a sob choke in her throat, her body losing the will to stand up. She sunk to the ground, inches from the cliffs edge, wanting nothing more than to fly again. To feel the kiss of the wind against her neck and the thunder around her like the whisper of a lover. Yet here she
'was, paralyzed in front of the chance to feel life again. She reached a hand out, able to feel where the ground ended but she couldn't bring herself to just pull forward. She knew that the moment she stepped off, she would be right back at the beginning. Standing on the cliff side. No wind. No thunder. No rain hitting her bare skin and causing her to blossom again.
She let her sobs echo freely, her own voice sounding back, laced with razors.
"Please." She cried out to nothing and everything. "Please let me fall. I just want to fall."
Her breathing stilled as the airy response drifted through her mind. Not aloud and notin her head, the voice was familiar in the most heart wrenching of ways,
"You know why you mustn't."
Her chest clenched, sobs wracking her body as the voice continued.
"You've fallen in love with the fall itself. Tricked yourself into believing that's what true happiness. But it's all a facade. Isn't it dear?"
She shook her head, desperate to defend her cliff.
"What happens when after fall?" The voice prodded quietly. She shook her head again, her head swimming with pain. "What happens after the fall?" The voice pushed, more aggressive.
"I land." She responded tearfully, her voice hoarse.
"And when you land, where do you wake up?"
The voice taunted, louder and louder, "Back here, Back where you belong. Out of reach of falling. A step away from what YOU call happiness."
"N-no! She cried, holding herself together with her own embrace.
A gentle touch brushed aside her hair, the voice back to its lie of empathy and affection,
"Stay here my love.
You can't spend your time jumping off of cliff sides.
It's not what you're meant for."
The girls whimpers quieted over time, her body stilling.
Her eyes were shut as the clouds took on purple hue,
her skin unfeeling as the wind danced against her,
Her ears deaf to the thunder whispering the words of a lover.
She laid still
Asleep, inches away from the cliff side.
