Nyuen Chun Ti grew up in rough sections of the United Planets where nothing was more important than proving your man- hood by standing up to any and all chal- lenges. So when he ended up in the asteroid belt on a tiny world called Miners-
'town, he didn't think twice about accepting the challenge of a local sadist called Wolf
Behbach, no matter how many proud brawiers had died at the bully's hands.
Behbach possessed an ancient Fission
Blade from Earth's World War Vil and
'would cruelly provoke his victims into fight- ing him, knowing it was virtually impossible to beat a man armed with the "Persuader'
But he met his match in Nyuen Chun Ti,
'whose brute strength and savage intensity were enough to overcome the overconfi- dent Behbach. Nyuen ruthlessly finished off his victim and took the Persuader ax as his prize.
'Nyuen was now the top dog of Miners- town, a worthless distinction of which he quickly tired, Having spent his life to that point barely scraping by to support his brawiing, Nyuen was determined to use his newfound power to ear the riches he'd always coveted. He adopted the "Per- sauder" name, fashioned an armored uni- form and hired himself out to crime families as enforcement muscle. His merci- less efficiency gradually eamed him a repu- tation as the most effective and highest paid enforcer in the U.P. underworld

The Persuader was nearly impossible to capture and still more difficult to hold, but the greatest challenge of all was to actually convict him. Nearly every powerful crime family was threatened by the potential testimony the Persuader could give authori- ties, so he always somehow managed to benefit from the highest priced attorneys and the most sympathetic judges.
The Persuader's freelancing career pro- ceeded smoothly until the governor-general of the Jupiter Provinces interfered with one of his highest-paying assignments. The
Persuader kidnapped the official and spir- ited him off to a tiny moon for execution.
There the killer was interrupted by Legion- naire Princess Projectra, who saved the governor-general and offered a deal to the
Persuader. He could earn himself a full par- don by assisting the Legion in saving the solar system from the imminent attack of massive Sun-Eater.
The Persuader agreed and was teamed with four other cutthroats who became known as the Fatal Five. They assisted the
Legion in destroying the Sun-Eater, but refused to reform and became one of the
'most feared criminal groups in U.P. history.
The Persuader had never before taken orders or shown loyalty to any group, but apparently his strong feelings for the beau- tiful Emerald Empress Sarya (emotions she never reciprocated) helped tame the
Persuader's rebellious nature and he has remained a fixture in the Five during its various incamnations to date. The biggest change in the group came with the appar-

ent death of Fatal Five leader Tharok at the hands of a cloned replica known as the
Dark Man. Since then, the Empress has
'organized various Fatal Five teams, all of which have included the smitten Persuader.
But there's been no attempt to assemble another team since the Empress died shortly before the Magic Wars. Her passing apparently had a considerable effect on the
Persuader, who's responded in the post-
Collapse U.P. by immersing himself in his bloody work
The scars of many battles with the
Legion and the loss of the Empress seem to have taken their toll on the Persuader.
The man who was once motivated only by a need to prove his manhood is now more interested in simply making a living the best way he knows how. The difference is lost on his victims.
Even without his Atomic Ax, the Persuader is a mighty fighting machine, perhaps the result of genetic engineering that's given him great endurance and strength. Some believe these attributes are a result of selective breeding in ancestors of the Per-
'suader who worked as laborers on high- gravity worlds.
The blade of his Atomic Ax is capable of slicing through virtually anything, appar- ently by disrupting molecular bonds.
There's also a telekinetic link between the ax and its owner that has made the
Persuader extremely difficult to incarcerate for lengthy periods.
