    • This is actually true. Diamonds are actually surprisingly fragile. Usually the higher something registers on the Mohs scale, the more scratch resistant it is while being less shatter resistant. Plastic is 1, tempered glass/phone screen is 6-7, Diamond is 10

    • Materials science engineer here. Hardness is the resistance to plastic (permanent) deformation while toughness is the ability to absorb energy before fracture. Usually a gain in one is a loss in another (diamond is hard but very brittle)
