AP stat is the prime example of this bullshit. You have to memorize a template by heart for a bunch of different kind of tests and then regurgitate that shit perfectly or lose more than half your points
Y’all schools suck. On my AP Chem final our teacher gave us full credit if a question is right (multiple choice), work or no work. Even if we got it wrong she’d still give partial credit for any work we showed
When I become a math teacher, I’m gonna make sure this shit never happens in my class. However, if a kid does this and I know that fuck just copied answers, Ima have him show the class for review.
My math teacher had is so a red pen check on our hw with an answer key, and a few weeks ago I had gotten all the answers right so I just turned it in, and I got 1/2 of for no red pen check. I explained to her that I had gotten them all right but she just replied “you still need a red pen check”
This happens to me all the time when I was in 5th grade and I told my mom and she was going to kick someone's ass if they didn't change it and ever sence then my mom was my hero with school
That’s literally the correct way the school system is?? If you aren’t showing your work you’re not attaining the information correctly and if by chance you have a problem with showing your work, you’re probably lazy
Get this shit. I'm taking a college level math course and I didn't show my work on converting APR. I get the right answer and she marks the whole thing wrong. I ask ”why?” She says that ”you could have cheated off someone next to you.” This bitch gives us all different tests!
I'm a whole believer that if a student can do the work needed without either showing work or ever showing up to class, then they should be allowed to pass. If the best fuckin student in the class has a 20% attendance rate then so be it. Fuck this citizenship grade garbage.
Fond memories of geometry saying "I see your point, but the formula is needlessly complex for a simple calculation of basic arithmetic". I was a prick then.
I had some psycho right professor for my stat class that did this and more bullshit, by the end of the semester there were 9 people left that didn't drop out of the class
Is the thought that because we didn’t write it down we must have cheated? Like they assume everyone’s to dumb to have gotten the right answer in there head?
Math now a days: You can't take three from two Two is less than three So you look at the four in the tens place Now that's really four tens So you make it three tens Regroup, and you change a ten to ten ones And you add 'em to the two and get twelve And you take away three, that's nine Is that clear
Everyone’s saying “oh work shouldn’t be worth anything fuck that” but what about the times where you know exactly how to do it and have perfect work written but get a wrong answer because you wrote 3x3=6
If you're being tested on your ability to go through a process and you don't write it down then there isn't proof you know how to go through the process.
That’s some horseshit. Showing work should never be more than 30% of the grade, so that if you get everything right and don’t show any work you’re still passing, because you obviously know the material if you got everything right
i used to be such a mathematician that i’d do the work in my head - this was so annoying i would rebelliously not do the work when i was able to just to throw it in their faces (i had high enough grades that i could do it)
I use this shit system in my favour, because if I don’t really know how to do something, I’ll just write some bull shit down that looks like I tried and I’ll usually still get about half of what the question’s worth
Since math isy strongest subject, i do most of it inside my head and i dont show my work. Ive always hated having to show my work but thankfully my math teacher gives us extra credit for showing it.
Showing your work is an important part of demonstrating your knowledge of the material. If you can show each step of getting your answer, it let's your teacher know that you truly understand the concept.
“All the answers are wrong” ... “but you showed your work so I gave you a 60% for partial credit because you were on the right track” this is how I passed physics. Show your work friends
Once on a test, we had to circle the answer we picked and write it on the side. But I forgot cause I was focused on the test. I got it all right, but because I didn’t right the answer to the side, I go a 0!
They said that I had to show my work, they never said that I couldn't do that work with a crayon on a paper towel. They had no choice but to accept the fact that I took my senior year math final in green crayon, because I scored the highest in the class.
The last time this happened to me I looked at the teach and told him to give me the next set of HW. Did it in front of him, 50 questions, and it took me about 20 min. All the work in my head. (It pays to memorize the multiplication tables to 36x36.)
I got a 4 out of 10 on my homework simply because I didnt show any work... I'm amazingly good at math and even finished the assignment within the last 5 minutes of class and still got fucked over and given a shitty grade
If you show no work when it specifically asks for work you deserve it. Most teachers have a “show work” policy in place bc kids who don’t know what they’re doing can just copy answers and it’s much harder to copy correct work
except that’s entirely reasonable because there’s a lot of ways to get the right answers with the wrong work and answers without work don’t prove mastery of a concept
Anything above highschool algebra and you're gonna have to show your work in order to even solve it correctly. Plus if you miss something you can clearly find/see where you screwed up. Just write it down, not that fucking hard
Showing work for me is what earns me points wtf. I had the wrong answer because I fucked up somewhere in my work and I only had a point off instead of 4
Here’s an idea, what if teachers said you could redeem a wrong answer if it was a simple mistake, and if there was work to prove it. Remember, tests are to see if you understand the content, if you accidentally put 2+2 down as 3 you shouldn’t be punished for it, they know you understand basic
Idk this went both ways for me. I’ve gotten points for using the right equations and showing work but messing up towards the end and getting the wrong answer. I never really complained.
If you get the answer right, even with a tiny bit of work shown, you deserve credit. There's a thing called mental math, some are better at it than others. Fuck teachers that take off points for no work shown.
I will never forget a college chem teacher for marking my answer wrong on a test for conversions which was 10% of the test grade because I put a decimal in the wrong place in my final answer. I used algebra instead of her stupid format and all my work was correct.
Y'all better start showing work in math higher than algebra, my professor takes points off. Even if it's wrong I'll get partial credit for showing it where he sees where I messed up and gives me .25 or .5 depending on how bad.
