    • Look how much wider this is than a tank track though. Wont sink into anything if it holds up. And if it breaks the truck still works

    • The US used these in WW2 to get wheeled vehicles across a sandy beach so they will just drive on the road so they don’t get stuck

    • These trucks have a roll of “road” on top of the truck that lays down usually on loose gravel or sand. It helps other vehicles that are heavier that would sink and get stuck within the loose gravel or sand.

    • Basically it carries a road that it can lay down. It’s meant to go on the beach or in mud so other military vehicle can pass over the bad terrain easier

    • This is the military engineering truck you are seeing. Lays roads for other military vehicles over marshes, sand, and other hard to drive over surfaces. It’s a folding road system on a 15 ton MAN 8x8 truck. German Army has a bunch of these

    • If you compare to tank tracks this is actually significantly different. Tank tracks have massive groves to dig in to the ground where this doesn't and the sprockets on this look like they can still drive the vehicle without the track where a tank cannot. Just to name a couple

    • The idea being, you can get all the benefit of a wheeled vehicle, while being able to cross loose ground like a tracked vehicle. Tracked vehicles are notoriously tough on roads, and wear treads faster on roads, where wheeled vehicles tend to sink into loose sand and soil.
