• MTDNA EVE AND Y-CHROM. ADAM
AND WHY CREATIONISTS SHOULD AVOID USING THEM
A CERTAIN CREATIONIST FRIEND OF MINE (*COUGH* YOU KNOW WHO
YOU ARE *COUGH* MASTER OF CENSORSHIP *COUGH* CENSOR THIS,
BITCH *COUGH*) CLAIMED THAT SCIENCE HAS SHOWN THAT ALL MODERN
HUMANS ARE DESCENDED FROM TWO INDIVIDUALS; A MALE AND A FEMALE,
SIMILAR TO IN GENESIS. AND THIS IS TRUE, KEYWORD BEING "MODERN",
IGNORING THE OBVIOUS FACT THAT THE SAME SCIENCE ALSO SAYS
THAT WE DESCEND FROM AN ANIMAL THAT ALSO GAVE RISE TO CHIMPS,
I'M GOING TO EXPLAIN WHY USING THIS ARGUMENT IS NOT WHAT THE
CREATIONISTS WANT IT TO BE. LET'S START OUT WITH WHAT SCIENCE
SAYS.
THIS IS NOT WHAT THE SCIENCE SAYS. I'M JUST GONNA SAY THAT FROM THE
VERY OVERSIMPLIFIED, BUT I THINK IT'LL SUFFICE. FIRST OFF, THE IS BECAUSE THERE REALLY WASN'T A SINGLE FIRST HUMAN. EVOLUTION
HAPPENS IN GROUPS. HOWEVER, BECAUSE I'M LAZY, THIS IS HOW I
CHOOSE TO REPRESENT IT. ANYWAY, CREATIONISTS WOULD HAVE US
THINK THAT THE SCIENCE SAYS THAT THE PERSON IN THE PINK CIRCLE
IS WHO MTDNA EVE/Y-ADAM ARE. BUT THAT'S WRONG.
HOWEVER, ASSUMING THIS IS A FAMILY TREE OF ONLY LINEAGES THAT

    • @The_Jim_Moriarty, I definitely thought about mentioning that, but the range of dates for them actually do overlap, so I can't be sure. I guess maybe I should have mentioned that Y-Adam and mtDNA Eve likely never met.

    • @JF_Genesis_, well one hypothesis is called chromosomal fusion. See in about 1 out of 1000 births have a chromosomal fusion which can be fatal but sometimes not. It's all a matter of how the fusion goes and how it affects the rest of the system.

    • @JF_Genesis_, we actually have a good idea which chromosome is the one that resulted from the fuse, and I believe it's chromosome 2 (I'll check and correct it if that's wrong), because that chromosome can be lined up with two chimp chromosomes and the telomere/centromere...

    • ...chimpanzees, and I can'r remember how long ago that was. What happened is that two chromosomes accidentally fused together and stayed that way. It obviously had a positive or neutral affect on the organism, because it continued to reproduce and we are its descendants.

    • @JF_Genesis_, well, first off, humans ARE apes, but that's not really important for this question. Yes, other great apes have two more chromosomes than us. The scientific evidence says that this happened somewhere between now and when we diverged from our common ancestor with...

    • Hey, I don't want to start a comment war, but I have a question for you. If evolution is true how do you explain the difference of chromosomes in organisms. For example humans have 46, apes have 48. How could apes evolve into humans. If humans have too little or too many it results in disorders.
