    • (Floor salesman here) Hardwood is much harder to care for and in many cases, people cover it up to avoid paying thousands to sand and finish the hardwood. Sheet Vinyl is inexpensive and durable so it is very common in many lower priced homes. I personally like tile with grout sealer in kitchens.

    • The reasoning behind it is to preserve the wood floor. Linoleum is cheaper than a real hard wood floor but just as durable if not more so. So wgen the linoleum finally gives out? Tear it off, rent a sander for 100$ and give it a nice wax/varnish coat and there you go a brand new floor for 200-300$

    • I'm an millenial insurance adjuster and see flooring damage and people having to pull up flooring all the time, done it for years. And I've never once seen hardwood floors underneath linoleum. People dont do that. Usually the subfloor underneath is just press board sheating that acts as a base.
