I don't get up at 5 in the morning in the middle of gross ass mushroom smelling oklahoma to get told by some weed headed bint jock that my constant running and being forced to specifically and perfectly march is not equal to him flipping a tire for half an hour
Yea its not, no phsical demands at all other than carrying and holding, a marching band kid tried to tell me that lifting 455 lbs over my head isnt hard but then I tell him that blowing into a tube and pushing buttons to make sound come out isnt either then im the asshole
We have teams and we compete... what else is there. We have longer practices, more practices, and harder and more mentally grueling practices. If anything marching band is the hardest sport I can think of.
Okay here me out. My argument is that if we have all of this other shit that is classified as a sport why not band? Bowling, golf, Archery etc. If you look at the definition of sport band fits that more than some other "sports". Make band a sport or stop calling other shit sports.
My deal with the qualifications for being a sport is that it needs to have regular practices, be physically demanding, and have outside activity. Golf isn't a sport. Bowling isn't a sport. Football is, basketball is (can be played outside), band is because it hits all three categories.
We ran longer than the football boys before we ever marched. Then, we marched and played musical instruments for 4 hours, minimum. Our major performances may not have been as hard as theirs, but our practices were definitely harder. At least, at my school, at any rate
I’ve played trumpet for 8 years and done marching band for 5 and lemme just say ITS NOT A SPORT. YALL ARE JUST PUSSIES. THE ONLY THING THATS HARD ABOUT MARCHING BAND IS WEARING THE HOT ASS UNIFORMS IN 90* WEATHER.
Bruh I’m in marching band and it isn’t a sport and I will stand by that fact. Even though the definition of sport fits marching band, it isn’t classified as a sport. Therefore marching band is not a sport.
Band: *not a sport* Also Band: you have to walk a certain way in time with everyone else to a certain place for 5 to 15 minutes straight carrying anywhere from a 1 to 30 pound instrument with memorized music, time signature, foot placement and placement
Marching band requires the most team oriented focus than any sport. Every single person must be able to calculate what notes to play and how fast to play them at a moment’s notice based of the other players tempo and drum major’s hands. It might not be the most physically demanding sport but
I go to a school in Arkansas, and our marching band wins state every year. We practice 10 hours a day before school starts. Water breaks are kept to a minimum and did I mention that it gets up to 110 degrees most days. It takes so much work and effort to do what we do. Cont-
Maybe in other places, but in Texas, marching band is DEFINITELY a sport. In the summer of 2014 my highschool marched in 114 degrees during summer practice. Our summer practice lasts 2 months, and is 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. We compete in regional, area, and state competitions, and we receive..
The thing is, it legit is, considering you 1. Have daily practices, 2. Have warm-up exercises, 3. Have you working often longer than the Football team, and 4. Have competitions
We need to change the definition. Bowling, golf, band, and some others are more like hobbies. A sport needs to be between two sides playing at the same time with a point system, goal, and some kinda of object used to be moved to each goal for points.
Well, yeah. It is. Just because it's not televized or praised like Basketball, Football, Soccer, etc. doesn't invalidate the work that comes with marching band. We get defensive because when people say we don't work hard when we do work extremely hard. Public High Schools in smaller areas don't get
People in my school say marching band isn’t a sport but cheerleading is. My school is known mostly for our marching band and the jocks are the ones saying it isn’t. Y’all just hatin
As a band student, and a vet marcher, no it is not a sport but you can bet my ass that it’s hard as hell. Especially if your fellow marcher (trumpets usually) are idiots. But god damn is it satisfying to run a full show and get a rewarded at contests. No it isn’t a sport but I’d love to see you try.
It is a sport, it's called DCI. Drum corps from around the country compete to be labeled "international" champion. Out of 500 people that try out in drum corps roughly 10-20 make it.
As a drama and choir kid. Football is a hundred times harder. Track is a hundred times harder fuck soccer is a hundred times harder. The only thing that even remotely makes band a sport is marching and most schools can’t get that shit right. In freshmen and softmores.
It’s not that band isn’t difficult, it’s that it isn’t a sport. A sport needs to always be a competition, and marching band isn’t. It’s not a diss on band, it’s music, not a sport. I’m sure it can be physically demanding, but that’s not necessary for it to be a sport.
It may not be a sport but fuck it's exhausting. You definitely have to work out at least a little if your gonna do marching band. Unless you play the flute or some small instrument
I may be a bit bias, but, In my personal opinion Marching Band, is a sport. It’s very physically and mentally exerting. It requires dedication and coordination. Very competitive bands require vigorous workouts and lift weights and go on runs. -
Having done both marching band and football and now run track collegiately, I can say that marching band was very mentally exhausting but no where near as physically exhausting as non-debated sports. In my opinion, it is not a sport but deserves a varsity letter due to the amount of time and effort.
I think a lot of people might not realize but band is fricken hard. In about 3 weeks we practice about 150 hours. That's like 9ish hours a day (like 5 day weeks). And that's only about a quarter of the total practice before school starts. I'm in high school btw. Ik probably not getting my point acro
A sport is a physical activity that involves 2 or more opposing sides competing for a specific goal at the same time while simultaneously being able to prevent the opposing team from reaching their goal.
As a former marcher I will never call it a sport, it's an art. Calling it a sport takes away from the beauty of the activity and what makes it so special.
Lemme ask yall this. Why not consider MARCHING band a sport if ur ginna consider fucking golf a sport or some shit like tennis. And im saying this as someone who does band football track powerlifting and soccer
Marching band is definitely a sport, hours of constant practice in the hotter months of the year, physical punishment if you messed up or screwed around and the sense of family is equal to that of any sports team I’ve ever been on!
Ok, ok, here’s my hot take. If you score it based on points scored, it’s a sport like football, boxing, soccer etc. but band performances are scored subjectively, where people look for how well executed something is and there’s an “effect” category, making it a competitive art
technically it is, you can do it professionally, takes time and practice/experience, you compete against other bands, travel, and other things very similar to other sports, but i don't see it as a sport up there with something like football or baseball, it's just something fun to do during the fall
Bro marching band and cheerleading aren’t sports when they are literally cheering for another sport, my argument however is when competing, and not rooting for another sport, they can be sports, why not, they’re both pretty physically demanding
Ok I’m a band kid but I hate people who take it too far. Like the people who play shitty meme songs and who practice whenever but are still shit. Yeah, marching band is hard but it’s definitely not a sport
As someone in band I say it's not a sport and I make fun of those who say it is, honestly the marching isn't that bad so idk why they complain about it and compare it to sports like I play baseball which is one of the lesser physically demanding sports and it's way harder than marching band
I mean its pretty exhausting and takes just as much effort as sports so even if you don't call it a sport you're not better for doing something actually called a sport
