I read one time about a man who bought a
$1.00 lotteryticket on a Monday. The divorce
was finalized on Thursday, and on Saturday he
won about $25 million. His wife then sued him
for half of it since he bought the ticket before
the divorce was finalized. The judge ruled that,
at the time he bought the ticket, it was worth
$1.00, and remained worth that amount until
the lottery drawing, where the ticket would
then be worth nothing if he lost and $25 million
since he won. As the ticket was still worth
$1.00 at the time the divorce was finalized, the
judge ruled that the man had to pay his ex-wife
50 cents. I don't know how much of that went
to her lawyer.
