    • Bought 500 rounds of 5.45 at academy because 20 cents a round. Problem is finding an ak74 to actually use it.

    • Is 5.45 cool? Yes. Is 7N6 badass? Yes. Is 5.45 as abundant in the US as 5.56? Not by fucking long shot. Their capabilities as a round are similar but different. The sheer abundance of 5.56 outweighs all of the subtle differences that 5.45 has. Now if SHTF in russia and neighbors it's the opposite.

    • 5.56 is better because there’s a much wider variety of bullets for that cartridge. 5.45 armor piercing and open tip match (the most useful types) are virtually nonexistent in the US, while you can find both for 5.56. 5.56 is the most common cartridge for the AR-15, a superior rifle.

    • Both are useful for different reasons. Take the wound cavities they make for example. When 5.56 reaches a certain velocity it tends to shatter it's jacket in the target creating very wide cavities. 5.45 on the other hand has a tendency to o spiral in it's target making it very hard to remove

    • I love the AK platform, I personally prefer AKs as a taste preference, but as much as I love 5.45, 5.56 is just better in nearly every aspect for practical purposes.
